The first person in the series is Paul VanDeCarr, project director. Paul is a liberal, middle-class New Yorker who has worked on helping to end mass incarceration. He spoke with David, a gun-rights advocate from Pennsylvania.
Before and after each encounter, we'll take photos of the two participants striking poses that represent how they feel about the other person. In the photos above, New York liberal Paul (the tall guy with glasses) strikes a "whoah, don't shoot!" pose before the dialogue, while gun-rights advocate David assumes a "let me show you some things" pose. After the dialogue, Paul takes a stance that says, "okay, you've got some good points," while David offers what he calls a "warm Italian hug."
